As a part of the state and district projects concerning the
overwhelming problem of poverty in our communities, the VHS Student
Council organized the “Time for Change” project.
Learning of the need in Vernon, the students collected change in
their classes and raised enough money to purchase clothing and gifts
for seven children in Vernon at Christmas.
Members monitored the collection of the money, and purchased and
delivered the gifts to the children and their families.
Involving the entire student body in the project, VHS students were
able to experience the feeling of charity and giving to those who are
less fortunate than them.

In conjunction with the Peer Assistance Leadership (PALs) group at Vernon High, some Student Council
members have also been involved in the Power Paks 4 Kids program. Nutritious, non-perishable food
distributing these packs of food to chronically hungry children at various campuses in the district.
